Chapter one
My story begins in Shahdol.
I was born and raised in a joint family in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh. I learned cooking for my family and friends at an early age. Food was always cooked and served with reverence — each dish chosen for the season and for the temperament of the family. A meal was supposed to fill you up, nourish you, and create peace between your mood, your body and the day you were having.
Now, with two teenagers of my own, I cook that same food here in Edison — and teach it, to anyone who wants to learn.
